Attorney Jeffrey A. Stinnett, of Chattanooga, has been suspended from practicing law for two years by the Tennessee Supreme Court, according to a news release.
The Board of Professional Responsibility filed a disciplinary petition in September 2010 with three misconduct complaints against Stinnett, the release stated.
They alleged that Stinnett failed to inform clients that he was temporarily suspended, continued to practice law and accept fees during his suspension and continued to practice law after being temporarily suspended by appearing before the Juvenile Court of Hamilton County.
Stinnett did not refund legal fees despite being unable to perform any work on the cases, the release stated.
The high court ordered Stinnett to serve six months on active suspension starting Sept. 1 and 18 months on monitored probation.
He also must pay restitution to two former clients, pay the costs of the disciplinary proceeding and comply with Tennessee Supreme Court rules, the release stated.
