A woman was found burned and dead inside a smoldering car in Summerville, Ga., Friday, authorities said.
A call came to the Chattooga County Sheriff's Office reporting a burned car on an unnamed road off Little Sand Mountain Road, according to county coroner Earle Rainwater.
Rainwater said he went to the scene about 11 a.m. and stayed until 2:30 p.m., but he wouldn't give any further details.
He is waiting for an autopsy to reveal how the woman died, Rainwater said.
Deputies and dispatchers at the sheriff's office refused late Friday to discuss what happened, and Sheriff John Everett did not return calls made to his cellphone Friday afternoon.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called in to help, according to GBI Special Agent Greg Ramey.
"We're still investigating it," Ramey said. "We're about to follow up some leads."
He said he believes the Chattooga County Sheriff's Office has identified the woman, whose body partially was burned.
