Tony Phillips, 23, faces charges of attempted first degree murder and
aggravated assault in connection to a shooting of 35-year-old Johnny Tripp.An attempted murder suspect is in custody now after he was arrested in Knoxville Monday, according to the Chattanooga Police Department.
Tony Phillips, 23, was taken into custody by U.S. Marshal Service, Knoxville Police Department and the Chattanooga Police Fugitive Unit, said Chattanooga police spokeswoman Sgt. Jerri Weary.
Phillips' next court date is set for Dec. 13 in Hamilton County General Sessions Court Judge Bob Moon's courtroom.
Phillips was arrested in connection to the shooting of 35-year-old Johnny Tripp at 719 E. 49th St. on Nov. 20. Tripp was shot numerous times in the chest and legs.
Phillips is the second person arrested in the case.
Corey Ball, 22, also faces an attempted murder charge. He was arrested in Ringgold, Ga., and remains in custody. His next court date is set for Nov. 20 in Moon's courtroom.
Tripp told investigators he was sitting on the porch of a residence when he was approached by two men who pulled guns and began shooting at him. Both suspects got into a black Chevy Cavalier and fled the scene, police were told.
Chattanooga police responded to three shootings with injuries on that date. So far this year, there have been 86 shooting incidents resulting in death or injury in Chattanooga, according to records kept by the Times Free Press.
