Warm day, wintry night expected in Chattanooga area

Chattanooga's brief warm spell on Sunday is expected to give way by tonight to possible wet, wintry weather that could bring some snow to higher elevations, forecasters say.

Area temperatures will climb into the 50s today, with rain moving in later in the afternoon. Temperatures are expected to dip into the low 30s and upper 20s tonight. The rain could turn to snow early Tuesday morning, with mountainous areas possibly receiving an inch of accumulation.

"Most of the moisture will be moving out of the Chattanooga area by the time it comes to snow, so there probably won't be too much of it," said David Gaffin, forecaster with the National Weather Service in Morristown, Tenn.
