State and local authorities in Bledsoe County are seeking an escapee who fled from a work detail at the Southeastern Tennessee State Regional Correctional Facility Sunday afternoon.

Inmate Garland Godsey, 44, a minimum-custody prisoner who was serving a 25-year sentence for second-degree murder, was working as a trusty on state property surrounding the facility when he escaped late Sunday afternoon, according to a release from the Tennessee Department of Correction.

His prison sentence would have expired in 2018, officials said.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Godsey is asked to call the Tennessee Department of Correction Internal Affairs Office at 615-741-7144.
