Helena Schneider said Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is the only show her 7-year-old son Alex has ever loved and said the reception has been "indescribable."
"It's so exciting to see so many people so excited to see us.'
The Schneider family, who hale from Canada, held a brief press conference before meeting celebrity designer Eduardo Sol.
"We thought you guys were just make believe but you're real," said Alex's mom as she grabbed Sol's arm.
Alex and his family will be working with spectators at the Smile Card station, making cards for children in area hospitals.
This afternoon a black limo rolled onto the street carrying 7-year-old Alex Schneider, who has Salla disease and is part of the Make-A-Wish foundation.
Schneider watches the show every Sunday and said his wish was to help with one of the builds. Salla disease causes a build up of acid in the bloodstream and though he will not be aloud in the construction area the crew has a side project for him.
He arrived with his parents and was met by some of the builders, two lines of blue shirted volunteers and celebrity designer Xzibit. "Make some noise", Xzibit yelled, starting a roar from the volunteers that turned into a chant of "Alex! Alex! Alex!"
Crews catching up on Makeover build
Lead builder Craig Smith said workers overnight made a lot of progress and the flurry of activity continued this morning. He said workers would be installing counter tops and painting interior rooms today.
Volunteers were seen bringing in two wall panels with words like "pow" written in comic book script sticking with the super hero theme of the build.
Smith remained confident the form of workers could get the job done by Friday's deadline. "I'm surprised you can't see the blue shirts coming through the doors and windows because there are a bunch of volunteers in there" he said of the house.
Crews worked overnight to install mocha tan and chocolate-colored stone all over the front of the house at the center of the Extreme Makeover build.
The roof and chimney appear finished and workers were touching up the stone work around 9:15 a.m.
