Area veterans will have a chance to improve job-seeking skills and polish their resumes at an upcoming jobs fair.

The employment assistance workshop is open to all National Guard, reservists, veterans and spouses. Registration begins Tuesday at 7:45 a.m. at the Doubletree Hotel at 407 Chestnut St., according to a Tennessee Army National Guard release.

"We're all taught to look out for our buddies and that's what this program is all about," said Maj. Gen. Max Haston, Tennessee's adjutant general.

The three-day event will focus on veteran job strengths, analyzing personal skills, job search strategies, resumes and mock interviews. Thursday will be the job fair portion, with 15 employers attending, according to the release.

"These will be employers who are hiring," said Marvin Wells, Tennessee executive director for Employer Support for Guard Reserve, the event host.

Wells said this is the ninth time the group has held such an event. The group targets unemployed and under-employed servicemen and servicewomen and their spouses.
