Donate used cell phone for a good cause

DROP OFF YOUR CELL PHONE• Partnership for Families, Children and Adults, 1800 McCallie Avenue, 300 E. 8th Street or at 5600 Brainerd Road, Suite B-24.• All First Tennessee financial centers in Chattanooga and North Georgia.

Did you receive a new cell phone for the holidays? Want to give away your old one to a good cause? The Partnership for Families, Children and Adults has launched its sixth annual community-wide campaign to collect used, unwanted cell phones for its Family Violence Center.

Used cell phones are recycled or refurbished for resale, with 100% of collection proceeds benefiting victims of domestic violence, according to a news release from the partnership.

Cell phone collection "drop boxes" are currently available at all Partnership service offices and all First Tennessee financial centers in Chattanooga and North Georgia. The partnership requests donors bring their used, unwanted cell phones and batteries to these locations during working hours between Jan. 4 and Feb. 28, or year-round at Partnership offices at 1800 McCallie Avenue, 300 E. 8th Street, or 5600 Brainerd Road, Suite B-24.

According to the partnership, although contact information is removed from phones in the refurbishing process, donors are encouraged to delete all personal information before leaving phones in public drop boxes. This can be accomplished manually or by removing the SIM card from the phone. Chargers and accessories are not needed.

The group is also asking local businesses to initiate "Good Community Neighbor" collection campaigns with its employees, customers and vendors. Please contact Holly Ashley at 423.697.3829 for more information or to register as a "Good Community Neighbor."
