The suspect in the shooting death of a 25-year-old father of five has been arrested, police said.

Cordalro Strickland, 26, was arrested Thursday in Chattanooga, said police spokeswoman Sgt. Jerri Weary. He was found at 207 Sunrise Lane near Missionary Ridge and was arrested without incident, she said.

Strickland is accused of shooting Melvin "Brando" Fennell on July 3. Fennell was shot as many as three times in the thigh and leg area, resulting in his bleeding to death while in surgery at Erlanger hospital, according to a Hamilton County medical examiner's report.

Two others, Calvin Garner, 24, and Mariah Stoudemire, 21, also were wounded in the shooting but survived.

Fennell's adult criminal record shows more than 20 charges since 2005, including assault, vandalism and disorderly conduct.

Strickland has had at least one previous local arrest, a theft under $500 charge from East Ridge in 2009.

An arrest report on Strickland was unavailable at the time of this report.
