AT&T wireless customers in Chattanooga, Knoxville and East Tennessee experienced widespread outages this morning, the company acknowledged.

Cathy Lewandowski, a spokesperson for AT&T Strategic Communications, said consumers with AT&T handsets experienced "service interruptions while placing and receiving calls."

"AT&T technicians are determining the root cause of the service interruption and will work around the clock to restore service to affected customers," Lewandowski said around noon.

Just after 2 p.m., the company said it had fully restored service.

"AT&T wireless service is now fully restored for customers in the Knoxville, Chattanooga, Tri-Cities and East Tennessee markets," Lewandowski said. "We apologize for any inconvenience as a result of the service interruption earlier today."
