A Bradley County couple faces 39 counts of animal cruelty after Bradley County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to their residence on Ellis Drive finding 20 dogs, two horses, 16 birds and a cat that were not adequately cared for, according to a released statement.
The animals did not have clean water or food in temperatures reaching into the 90s.
James Freeman, 48, and Patricia Freeman, 53, are expected to go before a judge today after they were given a summons to appear. The couple reported to the jail Monday night and were released, according to a released statement.
Deputies were providing the animals water when the couple returned home.
The sheriff's office states animal control has responded to the residence over 70 times.
All of the animals were taken by animal control except for the birds, according to a released statement.
