Teenagers to shadow doctors

Teenagers to shadow doctors

March 18th, 2011 by Staff Report in News

High school students thinking about pursuing careers in medicine will get a chance this spring to spend a few days on the job with local doctors.

The Chattanooga and Hamilton County Medical Society, Medical Foundation of Chattanooga and University of Tennessee College of Medicine are hosting the sixth annual Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine from June 6 to 9.

Rising high school juniors and seniors must be nominated by April 15 to be considered.

Program participants can be nominated by teachers, counselors, doctors or youth organizations. Contact Kevin Lusk at 622-2872 or kevin@chattmedsoc.org for nomination forms.

During the four-day program, students will shadow physicians and attend daily lectures and roundtable discussions.

The program aims to inspire rising juniors and seniors to consider a career in medicine, educate students about options to help pay for medical school, provide students and local physicians with a community-based mentoring experience and increase the pipeline of health care providers in the area.
