VW plans variable workforce

Volkswagen officials said today that they plan to bring on a variable workforce of about 200 people by the year's end.

Hans-Herbert Jagla, VW's executive vice president for human resources in Chattanooga, said it has hired a contractor by the name of Aerotek to find the workers. He said that having the contract employees allows VW some flexibility in its workforce.

Jagla said the employees will be eligible to become Volkswagen employees later.

Salary and benefits for the variable workforce will be set by Aerotek.

Jagla said that the variable workforce is in addition to the 2,000 to 2,500 VW workers the automaker plans to hire in Chattanooga.
