Catoosa schools delay start date

Catoosa County schools will start classes in September next school year to give contractors more time to prepare tornado-damaged schools, according to superintendent Denia Reese.

School board members revised the schedule during a special meeting Tuesday evening, marking the start date for Sept. 6.

Reese said Ringgold High School and the schools' Central Office are repairable, as is a section of Ringgold Middle School.

Reese said the board's plan is to use the middle school for sixth- and seventh-grade students and the high school for eighth- through 12th-grade students.

Breaks and holidays will remain the same, though the school day for secondary students will be 15 minutes longer to meet required seat time, meaning school will end at 3:45 p.m.

The last day for students - May 25, 2012 - remains unchanged.
