A Flintstone, Ga., woman was arrested over the weekend on charges of stealing a car, two guns and pain pills back in October on the same night she was found suffering from a gunshot wound in the leg.
Authorities say it took weeks to unravel what happened on Oct. 29 when Aundrea Couch showed up at her sister's house in Chickamauga, Ga., bleeding from her leg.
At first Couch told police she had been shot at a nearby home during a party, but then changed her story, said Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson.
Now authorities believe Couch stole a fire-resistant box with two guns and Hydrocone inside from a friend's house, where she had been living for several weeks, and then drove off with the friend's car, Wilson said.
When she arrived at the house of her sister Amber Graham, Graham and her boyfriend, Kenny Motley, hid a pistol and the pain pills Couch had stolen, Wilson said. When questioned, the couple didn't tell police about the theft.
But when Motley tried to sell the pistol a few weeks later, authorities were able to piece together the details and arrest all three people Friday night, Wilson said.
Couch was charged with felony theft, Graham with felony obstruction and Motley with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and theft by receiving stolen property.
However, how Couch was shot and the location of a second gun are still a mystery, Wilson said. Couch has refused to tell police how she was shot.
"No one is charged in the shooting," he said. "Eventually we may figure it out."
The bullet removed from Couch's leg at the hospital is being shipped to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab to see if it came from the recovered pistol, Wilson said.
"But that still won't tell us who pulled the trigger," he said.
As for Couch, this isn't the first time she's been arrested.
Her criminal record shows she's been in Walker County Jail four times on charges that stem from obstruction to driving under the influence.
