A slain DeKalb County, Ala., man and his nephew charged with shooting him previously were arrested on domestic-violence charges, records show.

Shannon Smith, 36, was arrested and charged with murder Sunday after his 51-year-old uncle, Allan Lamar Henderson, was found dead outside Smith's trailer Saturday night.

Smith and Henderson were arrested earlier this year on charges of third-degree domestic violence, but it wasn't clear if the charges involved actions against each other, said DeKalb County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Stanna Guice.

Just a week before his death, Henderson, of Dawson, Ala., was released from jail after being charged with domestic violence, Guice said.

Smith also was arrested in March on a third-degree domestic violence charge and was ordered to serve seven days in the local jail in June when he violated a court order, Guice said.

DeKalb Circuit Court Clerk Pam Simpson was out of her office Tuesday afternoon and didn't return calls to give more details on Smith's and Henderson's criminal histories.

On Saturday, authorities said Smith and Henderson had been drinking when they got into a heated argument at Smith's trailer off County Road 150 near Geraldine, Ala.

Henderson was found dead at 9:43 p.m. CDT with a gunshot wound in his chest, said DeKalb County Sheriff Jim Harris in a news release. An autopsy is being conducted on Henderson in Huntsville, Ala.

Smith was questioned and later charged with murder, Harris said.

On Tuesday, Smith's bond was set at $250,000, Guice said.

Smith also has a pending warrant for his arrest in Geraldine on a misdemeanor charge, Guice said.

He also was arrested in 2007 on charges of second-degree possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, records show.
