Rossville man John Gregory Alvarez sentenced in Oxycodone ring

A Rossville man was sentenced Friday to nearly 22 years in prison for leading a group of people who sold oxycodone and laundered the profits.

John Gregory Alvarez was sentenced to 21 years and 10 months in prison, followed by six years of supervised release. He pleaded guilty to the charges Aug. 5.

Alvarez was found after an investigation, led by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Catoosa County Sheriff's Office and the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force, determined that he was the leader of a group of 13 people illegally selling oxycodone prescription painkiller and laundering the profits.

Alvarez obtained most of his pills from doctors in Florida and then distributed them in Tennessee, West Virginia and Kentucky, authorities said.
