17 dogs removed from Rising Fawn home after animal cruelty charges

Dade County authorities arrested two area residents Sept. 22 on charges of animal cruelty.

A Dade County sheriff's deputy responded to a complaint that several dogs were not being cared for at Rebecca and Cory Gerrells' residence at 67 Williams Road, police said. The officer saw the condition of the animals and the kennels they were housed in and immediately contacted investigators.

Seventeen dogs were removed from the address, police said.

The Dade Animal Resource Team came to the scene to help place the animals for immediate care and rehabilitation, police said. Officials also contacted the Department of Family and Children Services because of the condition of the home, police said.
