Linda MosleyTwo incumbents are giving up their seats on the Hamilton County Board of Education.
Chip Baker, who represents District 2, and Linda Mosley, who represents District 7, picked up papers to run for re-election in the August race, but neither returned them by Thursday's qualification deadline.
Mosley, who first was elected to the board in 2008, said she's stepping down to spend more time with her young grandson.
"Truthfully, that's where I'd rather be," she said.
Donna Horn and Ralph Miller have qualified to run for Mosley's seat.
Baker, who was elected in 2000, 2004 and 2008, said it is was time for someone else to serve on the board.
"I think it's time for some new blood," he said. "I'm proud of the accomplishments that we've had with this team of people."
Baker said he'll back Signal Mountain dentist Jonathan Welch, who appears to be running unopposed.
Retired Principal Jean Trohanis had picked up papers for the race, though she later withdrew.
The school board has only two competitive school races in the upcoming elections - one for Mosley's seat and a race between incumbent Rhonda Thurman in District 1 and challenger Katherine Benefield, who is retiring as a Hamilton County Schools network engineer.
Current District 4 representative George Ricks is running unopposed.
The election is set for Aug. 2.
