A cab driver is in critical condition after being shot Wednesday afternoon on Ocoee Street, Chattanooga police said.

Nearby residents called police just before 6 p.m. to report that a Millennium Taxi had been parked outside a residence at 1643 Ocoee St. for a suspiciously long time, said police spokesman Officer Nathan Hartwig.

When police arrived, they found 32-year-old Nathan Deere in the driver's seat and suffering from a gunshot wound.

He was taken to Erlanger hospital, where he is in critical condition, Hartwig saide.

Police are looking for a potential suspect described as a black male who was last seen running north on Ocoee.

A Millennium Taxi dispatcher confirmed that the victim was a driver for the company but declined to comment further on the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Chattanooga Police Department at 423-698-2525.
