Hamilton County Schools passed a controversial rezoning plan tonight that covers schools in the eastern part of the county

The plan takes students in the East Hamilton area and moves them to Ooltewah schools.

The board of education voted 5-3 in favor of the rezoning, with member Chip Baker abstaining.

Two motions were made to table the rezoning - one for a temporary halt and one for a year-long stop - but they both failed.
