School bus crashes head-on with SUV in Bradley County, student and 2 drivers hurt

A head-on crash between an SUV and a small school bus on U.S. Highway 11 in Bradley County sent one driver and a student to the hospital this morning, authorities said.

The driver of a southbound Ford Explorer apparently crossed the center line and stuck the bus just before 7 a.m. Both lanes of the highway were blocked until about 10 a.m., Bradley Sheriff's Office spokesman Bob Gault said.

The Explorer's driver was thrown from the vehicle and was in critical condition, Gault said. He was taken to Erlanger hospital by ambulance. The special-needs student riding in the bus was taken to SkyRidge Medical Center in Cleveland. The bus driver had only minor injuries, Gault said.

He said none of the names of the people involved had been released.

Officials with the transportation department of Bradley County Schools could not be reached for comment.
