Teen says shot by acquaintance

A 14-year-old boy showed up at Parkridge Medical Center about 9 p.m. Friday with a gunshot wound in his shoulder, Chattanooga police said Saturday.

The youth told police he was walking with two girls when two people he knew stepped out from behind bushes and shot at him, police spokeswoman Sgt. Jerri Weary said in a news release.

The boy said he was hit in the shoulder when he turned to run.

Police had received a report at 8:48 p.m. of a shooting at 2285 Wilcox Blvd. but found no one at the scene, Weary said.

She said police are trying to verify the boy's story, which has been inconsistent.

The boy is in stable condition, Weary said.

Darryl Hubbard told police he was washing dishes at his house at 4300 Seventh Ave. when his brother, David Hubbard, started the argument, Weary said. Darryl's wife, Catherine, said David Hubbard smacked her in the face, hip and arm with the board.

David Hubbard, 48, was jailed on two counts of aggravated assault, Weary said.

A car ran into a Walgreens at 3605 Brainerd Road at 2:30 p.m. Friday, and two people were injured.

Weary said Saturday evening that police have not yet figured out why the car hit the building, but both the driver and a pedestrian who was hit with a street marker were taken to a local hospital.

Weary said more details will be available later.
