Authorities are investigating the cause of a fire at a Shelbyville home that claimed the life of an elderly woman.

The Shelbyville Times-Gazette reported that 70-year-old Freida Fuston called 911 about 11 p.m. CDT Saturday and said she was in her bedroom and couldn't get out.

Fuston was disabled and used an electric wheelchair.

Officials said the intense flames prolonged firefighters' attempts to remove Fuston from the home, but they eventually retrieved her body.

She is believed to have died of smoke inhalation.

Electric co-ops assist Virginia

Six of Tennessee's electric cooperatives have sent crews to Virginia to assist in restoring power to victims of last weekend's storms there, according to a news release.

"With record-setting heat in the area, it is critical that power be restored as soon as possible," said David Callis, executive vice president and general manager of the Tennessee Electric Cooperative Association. "Like residents in the affected areas, our lineworkers face some very long and very hot days ahead of them."

Five lineworkers from Sequachee Valley Electric Cooperative in South Pittsburg, Tenn., are among those responding, the release states.


DUNWOODY, Ga.

Police go online for crime help

Police in Dunwoody have put a video on the Internet in hopes that it will help solve the only unsolved murder case in city history.

WSB-TV reported that detectives have put the video on YouTube. They hope it will bring clues in the July 2010 killing of Roger and Dorothy Abbott. The elderly couple was found slain in their home. Police say the house was then set on fire to cover up the killings.

The six-minute video detectives put online highlights the facts of the case and includes interviews with police and the couple's daughter.

Police want to identify the man a witness described seeing near the Abbott home the morning of the killings. Authorities continue to offer a $10,000 reward in the case.


WHITE PINE, Tenn.

Body found after motel fire

A fire has killed one person and badly damaged an East Tennessee motel.

Officials in White Pine and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation are investigating the weekend fire that appears to have started in the lobby of the Crown Inn about 5 p.m. Saturday.

According to The Knoxville News Sentinel, responders found a body after the flames were extinguished. There were no other injuries.

Authorities did not immediately release the name of the victim.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
