The front building of the Days Inn at 6510 Ringgold Road in East Ridge has been condemned because of health and fire code violations, according to a news release.

The move follows the discovery Friday that the motel is infested with bedbugs, East Ridge Police spokesman Erik Hopkins said in a news release.

Hopkins said the East Ridge Code Enforcement Division and East Ridge Fire Marshal's Office condemned the building.

People renting rooms in the building were to be moved to other rooms by motel management, Hopkins said, and investigators plan a follow-up Monday.

The rest of the property will have a 10-day corrective action plan with a follow-up inspection by East Ridge officials and the Hamilton County Health Department, he said.

The inspectors, along with the Health Department and East Ridge Fire Department personnel, were called about bed bugs in room 217.

At the motel, investigators also noticed some of the smoke detectors were missing or not functioning, he said.
