The Tennessee Highway Patrol has identified the man killed in a one-car accident on Signal Mountain Thursday as Joseph Wagner, a well-known Signal Mountain attorney.
Wagner, 97, was driving on U.S. Highway 127 Thursday night when his car left the road, went down an embankment, hit a rock and then flipped over, the Tennessee Highway Patrol accident report states. There was no indication that Wagner applied the brakes or attempted to regain control of the vehicle.
Wagner was driving a 2008 Ford and was wearing his seat belt, the report reads. However, Trooper Danny Viar recorded that he does not believe the seat belt could have made a difference in the accident. Drugs and alcohol were not involved in the crash, and it is not clear why the vehicle left the road, the report states.
