Chattanooga police are asking for the public's help in identifying a bank robber from Monday's robbery who wore gloves, a surgical mask and a Smurf cartoon hat to conceal his identity.

At 9:43 a.m. police responded to the SunTrust Bank branch at 4614 Highway 58. The suspect was armed with a handgun and obtained an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing. He is described as a black male, about 6 feet tall and weighing 200 pounds.

This is the second SunTrust Bank to get hit in two weeks in the Chattanooga area.

It's unclear if the robberies are related, according to police.

At 2:31 p.m. Thursday the bank at 2801 E. 48th St. was robbed when the bandit presented a note to the teller demanding money. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspect fled.

The suspect is about 25 to 30 years old, 5 foot 10 and weighing about 175 pounds. He has a thin beard and was last seen wearing a black ball cap and a long-sleeve black shirt with writing and a design on the front.

Anyone with information on this crime is asked to call the Chattanooga Police Department at 423-698-2525.
