CLEVELAND, Tenn. -- City schools' start and stop times for the next school year have changed slightly after the Cleveland Board of Education accepted a recommendation from Director Martin Ringstaff on Monday.

For the 2012-13 school year, the start time is 7:50 a.m. for Cleveland High and Cleveland Middle schools. The stop time is 2:50 p.m. For elementary schools the times are 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

The board voted to change the times last December.

"After numerous attempts to get our previous times to work, we continued to run into issues. We have tested the new proposed times and feel that this is manageable and in the best interests of all involved. We would open the elementary school doors at 7:40 a.m.," Ringstaff told the board in a memo.

The board also accepted recommendations making some changes in the high school and middle school dress codes.

"It was a recommendation from a study group made up of students, parents and faculty," school system spokesman Doug Moore said Tuesday.

Students are expected to follow the dress code at all times while on campus during regular school hours, the code says. Students arriving at school and not complying with the dress code will be isolated until parents bring appropriate clothing, according to the code.

If there is a question about a clothing item, clarification should be sought from school administrators before wearing the item, the code says.
