Two arrested in 2011 Flat Rock theft case

Jackson County, Ala., sheriff's personnel have arrested two suspects in connection with a theft at a Flat Rock home in 2011, a news release states.

Mark Allen Smith, 37, and Peggy Elaine Smith, 36, both of Bridgeport, Ala., each are charged with theft of property-second degree, according to Sheriff Chuck Phillips.

Mark Smith, who was in custody at the Jackson County Jail on other charges, remains there. Peggy Smith was released on bond, the release states.

In the theft, a man and a woman went to a home on County Road 71 in Flat Rock asking for directions. The man talked to the owners, and the woman asked to use the bathroom, investigators said. After the pair left, the home owners discovered items missing including a wallet, credit cards and a roll of coins, the release stated.

None of the stolen items has been recovered, authorities said.
