A new court date has been set for a man charged with using Facebook to try to hire someone to kill his ex-girlfriend for money.

Carl E. Parks Jr., 20, was arrested in February on a charge of solicitation to commit murder after he put up a post on Facebook saying he was ready to kill TaRea Simpson, who was pregnant.

Simpson saw public, threatening posts on his Facebook page such as "Really think I am finna kill dis [expletive deleted] ..."

On Feb. 13, Parks posted "Got 100 on the lil dirty [expletive deleted] head. ... Any takers." There were several responses to the post.

Simpson told police she feared for her life after seeing the posts.

A preliminary hearing is now set for Thursday at 8:30 a.m. in Judge Christie Mahn Sell's courtroom in Hamilton County Sessions Court.

"This case is not nearly what it appears to be," said Gerald Webb, Parks' attorney. "This was a race to the courtroom to see who could get a warrant first."

Transcripts of harassing text messages from Simpson to Parks will be presented in court on Thursday, Webb said.

"The full truth will come to light on Thursday," he said.

According to court records, Simpson broke up with Parks on Feb. 12. After that, Parks started sending her threatening text messages before she saw the posts on Facebook, the report said.

In October 2011, Parks received a suspended three-year sentence on charges of theft over $500 and aggravated burglary.
