Opinion: Why using a Chattanooga jury for the Vanderbilt rape trial is wrong

Note: The retrial of the Vanderbilt University football players accused of rape will have a jury comprised of Chattanooga residents.

Have you ever served on a jury?

One of the best experiences I've had in my too many years was the chance to finally serve on a jury about 10 years ago while I was still living in Raleigh, N.C. The experience was particularly illuminating in that it showed me how thoughtful and also unpredictable a jury is likely to be as it deliberates.

Lawyers make all kinds of assumptions about the folks they put on juries, and I bet they are mostly wrong.
