Sen. Al Franken

Sen. Al Franken

No one will ever know for sure which candidate for the United States Senate really won the election in Minnesota last November.

That's because there were so many questionable votes, so many election irregularities and so many uncertain counts that the truth will never be known.

But what the voters were unable to decide, the Minnesota Supreme Court has decided. It has handed victory to Democrat challenger Al Franken over Republican Sen. Norm Coleman.

It is unfortunate that any election is decided by other than honest ballots and an honest count.

The Franken win is particularly important because he will become the 60th Democrat in the current Senate, and that's the number needed to prevent Republicans from filibustering to extend debate to slow down the Democratic steamroller.
