A young Dutchman named Joran van der Sloot was reported to have been seen with her. But despite a long search, the mystery of Natalee's disappearance went on for a long time without a conclusive answer.
Now, in 2010, Van der Sloot's name is "in the news" again.
A 21-year-old woman, Stephany Flores, has been found stabbed to death in a Lima, Peru, hotel room. Who reportedly had been seen entering the hotel with her? Joran van der Sloot.
The young man, now 22, had been in Peru for a poker tournament. He left Peru for Chile, where he has now been arrested.
No official charges have been made.
But many questions remain unanswered, about Natalee five years ago, and about Stephany now. An amazing story continues.
