The "bad" job news in Hamilton County is that about 10 percent of our people who want jobs are unemployed.
Most people really need jobs to get along. Ten percent unemployment means far too many of our people are really suffering.
People who have jobs may be able to handle many of the challenges of life. But having no job and no paycheck is tough.
The "good" news is that with Volkswagen coming to Chattanooga, there soon will be about 2,000 good new jobs for local people at VW -- plus several hundred other jobs created in related activities. But they aren't all here "yet."
We should be very sympathetic toward people out of work, while we rejoice that the economic opportunities for our people and our community will be looking up very soon.
