An emotional moment

An emotional moment

You remember, of course, a tragic day, last Jan. 8, in Arizona.

In the parking lot of a grocery store in Tucson, an apparently deranged man went on a shooting spree.

Six people were killed indiscriminately, and 13 others were wounded, including a member of Congress, Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz. Suspect Jared Lee Loughner has pleaded not guilty.

Giffords miraculously survived a serious gunshot wound to the head.

And on Monday night, she had recovered sufficiently to appear again on the floor of the United States House of Representatives in Washington.

As Giffords' colleagues saw her enter the House slowly for the first time since her injury, a wave of applause swept through the chamber, and she was warmly embraced by her fellow lawmakers.

Giffords was able to cast her first vote since she was wounded -- for the bill to address the United States' debt.

Then she quietly left the Capitol.
