Palin-Trump mutual admiration

We don't have much really exciting presidential politics brewing - yet. But it was interesting that "The Donald" Trump and Sarah Palin had a mutual admiration society meeting this week at Trump Tower in New York.

Trump has been well known for a long time as a "potential" Republican candidate for president. But he has opted out for 2012.

What about Palin?

She is prominent for having been a governor of Alaska and an unsuccessful Republican vice presidential candidate in 2008. Now she is obviously keeping herself "in the news" as a 2012 presidential possibility.

So it was colorful, if nothing more, that Trump and Palin showed up together in public Tuesday.

But what does it say for our potential 2012 presidential options when President Barack Obama is the sure Democrat nominee and Trump and Palin have been among the seriously considered Republicans?

Doesn't this remind us that the possible candidates mentioned so far do not guarantee that the American people will have an opportunity to elect an outstanding president next year?
