102 reporters died giving us news

We read news, watch TV reports and hear radio accounts as a matter of course from throughout the world. It is amazing how well informed we may be thanks to those who work to furnish us that information.

But we may not understand how dangerous it is for reporters in some parts of the world until we read a terrible statistic: Just last year, 102 journalists were killed.

Forty died in Asia, 32 in Latin America. Among individual nations, 16 died in Pakistan, and 12 died in Mexico.

We often little appreciate our safety in the United States compared with the dangers many face around the world.
