Our Chattanooga area has had a fine tradition - for 33 years - of inviting local residents to join annually in an inspirational prayer breakfast.
Nearly 1,600 people gathered yesterday at the Chattanooga Convention Center in Christian fellowship to hear a talk by Jeff Kemp, an 11-year National Football League quarterback.
Kemp, of Bellevue, Wash., is a Dartmouth graduate and founder of an organization called Stronger Families. He said that at one time, "God was [only] an insurance policy in my pocket" - until he found that his "success amounted to nothing."
Then he discovered from the Bible that God "wants to give us a great life" and wants us to live for eternity.
Our community of many churches surely is inspired and energized each year by the prayer breakfast.
