Chattanooga isn't -- and certainly should not be -- like the wild West of old, with random shootings destroying the peace and security that our residents ought to be able to enjoy. And so it is alarming that Chattanooga police had to investigate three separate shootings on Sunday.
One was on Nautical Way, where a man was shot in the foot. Another involved a man shot in the shoulder as he worked on his car in his neighborhood. The third shooting wounded a man in the chest and thighs as he was sitting on his porch on East 49th Street.
One suspect has been arrested. Others are being sought.
It is appalling when anyone in our community is subjected to such danger.
Suspects in these types of cases -- which all too often turn deadly -- should be vigorously prosecuted.
