Dr. Frank 'Gus' Graham III

For many of his 90 years of life, Dr. Frank "Gus" Graham III provided highly beneficial medical and civic service to Chattanooga. He died on Sunday.

After medical service as an Army captain, Graham became well respected as a general surgeon in Chattanooga.

He served as chief of surgery at Erlanger and Memorial Hospital, and at Tri-County (Hutcheson) hospital in Fort Oglethorpe.

He was president of the Chattanooga/Hamilton County Medical Society in 1967, was chairman of the Tennessee Valley Medical Assembly in 1996, and was a founder and past president of the Chattanooga Surgical Foundation.

Graham was given the Memorial Hospital Foundation's Humanitarian Award in 2003.

He was a devoted family man and a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church.

Graham was widely and justifiably admired as a citizen of great and cheerful civic service.
