The University of Georgia, 'The Simpsons' and a big waste of time

See how funny you think this is.

The University of Georgia recently hosted a roundtable discussion that involved a number of prominent academics, as well as the director of the prestigious Peabody Awards and some other noted participants.

With such an array of respected panelists on hand, surely the subject was one of some importance.

Or maybe not.

As it turned out, the burning topic of debate was whether the animated television series "The Simpsons" -- which has now been on the air almost a quarter of a century -- is still funny.

We're not joking. That was what a number of highly educated men and women considered a legitimate use of their time.

Wouldn't that seem, rather, like something that those who watch the show could determine for themselves -- and then either continue watching or turn it off?

Does anyone need "experts" to make that judgment?

And don't you find it "funny" that educational and other leaders at a major university would squander time on such pursuits?
