Libya may not be better off despite U.S. aid in toppling Gadhafi

It is less and less certain by the day that the United States was wise to intervene in Libya's civil war six months ago -- even for the worthy goal of removing dictator Moammar Gadhafi from power.

Victorious rebels in Libya are apparently going around murdering civilians who are thought to have backed Gadhafi.

And now, militias and a number of tribal leaders in eastern Libya, where much of that country's oil is located, are more or less declaring themselves a separate nation -- promising more violence and instability in the region.

Any rightly thinking person had excellent reason to oppose Gadhafi. But President Barack Obama obviously did not think through the implications of aiding the revolution in Libya.
