Make the best of the situation

Re: "Statistics show nation's racism," (Aug. 2).

To me, what's more important is that God made us all and we are His children. The Israelites wandered in the desert for 400 years before they got any attention and they were God's people.

The African-American brothers and sisters I know are looking beyond this short time on Earth, where we all are subjected to people who are unfair, dishonest, etc. to a better place. Whoever said things are fair and equitable?

I suggest you play with the cards you were dealt, quit playing the race card and make the best of the situation in a less than perfect world.

I just returned from Kenya, Africa, along with 12 other Caucasians who were trying to make life better for our African brothers and sisters in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ in the largest slum in Africa. It's called Mathare, and there are about 500,000 people living in conditions that are beyond words.

Mathare isn't the only place for people to get involved, but it's one place that would welcome Americans' faces with open arms, from the president of the United States down to the writer of this article.

Time to share vital resource

I was informed that Blood Assurance is once again experiencing a summer slowdown in donations.

I have not been told that medical providers, including emergency rooms, are being blessed by a lessening of need for blood products.

Regular and first-time donors express various reasons for staying away from a blood bank during this time of year. We must find ways to overcome our reluctance, indifference or inability to share our vital resource with our community.

Use funeral flags for processions

In the "Letters to the Editors" of July 31, a writer noted a funeral being interrupted by crossing traffic in spite of the fact that they had their headlights on.

Headlights are no longer significant since most new cars have headlights on at all times. What is needed are the small magnetic funeral flags attached to the hood or roof of the car, provided by the funeral directors, in addition to the headlights.

I'm sure we would all agree the police have better things to do than escort funerals, military being the exception.
