Let each local city run its schools

Mayors, city leaders and concerned parents whose children now attend public schools must take a stand for and "demand" only the best for our children.

Mediocrity must never be "tolerated" again. Its "asinine" to "reward" anyone for a "poor performance" in their duties!

Common sense has been replaced with racism-diversity!

It's imperative that Chattanooga, East Ridge, Red Bank, Signal Mountain, Soddy-Daisy, etc., take back and run their own public schools.

Our public school systems have kicked out our upper income families. These educated mothers and fathers realize the importance of a good education. Too bad our school boards are too weak to take a stand on what is best for the student.

In search for a new public schools superintendent, some are suggesting another nationwide look-see. "Will We Ever Learn!"

This type of thinking is part of the problems that have placed us in the position we now face!

First, look no further than Hamilton County, then the surrounding counties. Pick a person who was born and reared here. Pick a person who did attend public schools here.

Now is the time to "dissolve" this system. Let each city run its own public schools.

Choose and elect best candidates

Our country celebrated Memorial Day with a myriad of ceremonies commemorating the service and sacrifice of our military. Though I have not served alongside them, I understand that I still have an obligation to those in uniform.

Our nation is at war, and while it is kind to send care packages and offer discounts to servicemen, there is something even more important that every adult can do: participate in the democratic process with energy and earnestness. When election season comes, we should all research our candidates for national office thoroughly with the aim of not just distinguishing the lesser of two evils but of putting our personal endorsement on the wisest and most prepared candidate in the field.

If you stood and applauded a veteran on Memorial Day, I do not doubt your sincerity. Still, I believe that if you voted for Obama in '08 merely because he was a fresh face (or for McCain merely because you always vote Republican), then I am afraid you're not doing right by the soldiers you applauded. We must choose our elected officials as if the lives of the people in our community depended on it. In wartime, they do.
