Hamilton County EMS Lt. Billy Burnette recently participated in the Dr. Seuss' Read Across America celebration at Snow Hill Elementary School. According to school librarian Lindsay McCarter, the event encourages students to get excited about reading.
Lt. Burnette called it a tremendous opportunity, personally and professionally, to share his love and excitement of reading and to interact with students as an emergency medical professional.
"I was able to talk with them about my job and let them know that, while an emergency can be frightening, we are caring individuals there to help them in an emergency situation," he said. "It is a little less frightening for children in a traumatic incident, if they understand what happens on an emergency call."
