Hitler, Clinton: Commonality?

Jesus Christ and Hillary Clinton are on a collision course. Jesus said, " I assure you: Until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter will pass from the law until all things are accomplished" (Matthew 5:18).

Hillary Clinton said, "Politicians will need to force religious leaders to change these ancient teachings to fit modern laws" (Women in the World Summit). Hitler believed the same thing.

Countries, such as Nazi Germany, pass away. But God's word will never pass away (Leviticus 20:13, & Romans 1: 26-27). Our nation is abandoning "under God" and is racing toward destruction.

"We must change the decisions we are making by changing the people who are making them." Marco Rubio.

Hitler role model for state reps?

Our elected state representatives recently dismissed a poll which showed a solid majority of Tennesseans supported the passage of the Insure Tennessee bill by essentially saying that their individual wisdom was greater than the collective wisdom of the people that they were elected to represent.

This reminded me of a quote from an historical figure from last century: "The majority can never replace the man. Just as a hundred fools do not make one wise man, and heroic decision is not likely to come from a thousand cowards."

That quote is from Adolf Hitler. Nice role model, guys.

Gays, gay marriage don't hurt anyone

The opinion piece by John Stonestreet concerning Christians being accused of bigotry in regard to gay marriage abdicates responsibility for their prejudice.

It is my understanding that there are well over 400 references in the Bible advocating helping the poor and disabled. Yet what we hear from Christians is that gays and gay marriage are bad, and then they proceed to enlist government in helping further these religion-based opinions by passing laws in each state demanding that all citizens comply with their beliefs.

What the average John Q. Public sees is quite simple: Gays don't hurt anyone, and neither does gay marriage. As the poster circulating on the Internet says: "If gay marriage has hurt your marriage, then one of you is gay!"

The lack of Christians' actions concerning what the Bible emphasizes makes them look like bigots simply using the Bible to support their bigotry.

If Christians had focused all their energy on ending poverty -- a main thrust of the New Testament -- it is likely we wouldn't have as much of it today.

End gang problem; pave more roads

I applaud the remarks made by Councilman Jerry Mitchell when he said he was "glad to see more money committed to paving roads, but he would like the figure to be higher."

He was also quoted as saying the city should be investing at least $5 million a year to keep up with street needs. I couldn't agree more.

As to "where do you get the money," perhaps if parents of delinquent troublemakers were held accountable for their actions, there could be less funds directed to solving the gang problems and more available for street pavings.

Our streets are in the worst condition I have seen in many years.
