EMS appreciated for saving a life

One EMS unit is special to me: Ambulance No. 6.

I am familiar with the crew. They are professional, compassionate and go above and beyond. They have saved my life at least three times in the last four years.

One team member, Patrice, risked her life to save mine and has looked after me a couple of times when I was near death. Without Patrice, this letter wouldn't have been written.

There are great people out there. Sometimes you are fortunate to meet them, no matter the circumstance.

How to say thank you? The best I can do is show recognition, respect and appreciation. My son would be without a father and my father without a son. To the unit, it is not just a job but a mission they love. Thank you all for your service, especially Patrice.

Wake up, folks, to Clinton's spin

As the news of Mrs. Clinton's FBI meeting is released, I am sickened to hear her spin on it.

A few examples:

"Pleased to sit down with FBI"/"I volunteered to meet with the investigators"/It was just a simple "interview." And I would conclude this latest chance meeting of Bill Clinton and Attorney General Loretta Lynch as more baloney from the Clintons.

The woman and her minions have had their heels dug in for years toward every effort to get to the truth, whether it was Benghazi, the email scandal, Clinton Foundation foreign money, speeches to Wall Street groups and much more.

Hillary is a master at manipulating the truth, changing the subject, diverting attention to others, holding no open news conferences, only allowing interviews with loving media. She almost had to be dragged to give an accounting of her misdoings. And if she is innocent, why did she have five lawyers present at her FBI "interview"? Why did the person who set up and monitored her illegal server plead the Fifth Amendment to every question when queried by Congress?

Please America, wake up before it is too late!

Vet: high praise for local VA clinic

I'm writing this letter to express how much our local VA outpatient clinic means to me, a World War II veteran. I have nothing but praise for this VA facility and staff.

I've been in contact with Dr. Lawrence High, my medical doctor. I've never had to ask for an appointment with the doctor, imaging or dental department. They contact me to schedule each appointment. Everyone is efficient, polite and appointments are filled on schedule by the staff, with a short wait time.

Thanks again, Dr. High, and everyone connected with our VA Clinic.

Clinton or Trump? Choose third path

"Yes, your highness! No, your highness! As you wish, your highness!" This is what Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton want to hear in Washington. Neither of them want to serve the American people. If elected, they expect everyone to bow to their wishes.

We just celebrated our independence from royal tyranny. Why on Earth do our people want any form of tyranny back? There is a huge number of voters who don't want either candidate but lack the courage to do what they can. Find a third-party candidate to vote for, write in a candidate you trust, or, heck, write in none of the above. Send Washington a message. Some will say it is a wasted vote; I say your vote is wasted on these kinds of candidates.

I don't want political party tyranny any more than our founders wanted royal tyranny. We rejected their kind of tyranny more than 200 years ago. I want leaders who have integrity, honesty, courage and can truly think. Otherwise, get ready, bow at the waist and practice, " Yes, your highness!" As for me, I won't vote for that, and neither should you! Or will you?

Cosmetics not only Botox use

To the reader who was so upset about Medicare paying for Botox, he/she should be informed that Botox is used for many noncosmetic purposes today.

It is used for chronic migraines, spacicity in upper limbs, cervical dystonia, urinary incontinence, severe sweating, blepharospasm and crossed eyes (strabismus) and enlarged prostates.

I'm sure the people who have these ailments are grateful for the fact Medicare helps them pay for their treatment, which can be a godsend.

Whim of court now decides all

By what standard is something judged legal or illegal? Is legality dependent on the judgment of that fifth member of the Supreme Court whose experience or opinion leads him or her to a particular conclusion? May that opinion override the majority vote of an elected state legislature, whose members may be voted out of office if they are too far removed from "the people?"

These are among the questions which once again surround the abortion issue and the Court's role in sustaining a nearly absolute right nowhere mentioned in the Constitution.

The Texas law which placed outpatient-surgery standards on free-standing abortion clinics was struck down by a single vote - Scalia would certainly have dissented as a fourth vote in the minority - on the grounds the regulations would have placed an "undue burden" on women seeking abortions. So standards helping guarantee women's health in such clinics were judged to be a "reproductive health" threat.

Can nine smart people really be so divided on something as important as this issue? If the law was truly burdensome, isn't it up to its opponents to persuade voters to elect a new legislature and pass a new law?

Letter told story better than Reich

I'm not surprised it took Robert Reich 681 words to lecture us about his version of inclusive patriotism (July 4 Chattanooga Times commentary).

All of his points, in my humble opinion, were divisive, hateful and mean-spirited toward Americans who simply do not agree with him, but this is what I have come to expect from Clay Bennett's cartoons, Pam Sohn's editorials, and Leonard Pitts' and David Cook's commentaries.

My suggestion is for the TFP is to hire Jerry Morris of Rock Spring, Ga. His July 4 letter to the editor was only 144 words and mirrored what true patriotism and the celebration of the 4th should look like - more so than Mr. Reich's politically correct garbage.

Let's vote against corrupt Dems

It is now reported from the FBI that Hillary Clinton will not be charged in the scandal involving classified email.

FBI Director James Comey contends Hillary did not intend to break the law but was extremely careless in handling classified email. Even though the law stated that negligence with handling classified email is a crime punishable by fine and prosecution, Comey will not file charges.

With Comey and Attorney General Loretta Lynch appointed by Obama, this outcome was expected. The corrupt Obama administration and his cronies will protect Hillary from any prosecution because they need her to win November's election for president. This ensures Obama's unconstitutional activity will not be undone.

The only thing any citizen can do with a corrupt Democrat administration is: Whether you are Republican, conservative, Tea Party, Libertarian, or whatever, vote against the Democrat, socialist candidate.
