Church, politics don't go together

Why is it OK for presidential candidates to speak at different churches or religious organizations to drum up voters? Face it - that's the purpose! What happened to the people who oppose manger scenes, the Ten Commandments, etc., being displayed on public property like courthouses? What is the difference? If our religious symbols are to be cut out, why not political "scenes" at the churches?

GOP lifer would vote for Clinton

It appears the presidential election is going to come down to Clinton vs. Trump. Once again, Americans will have to choose between the lesser of two evils. America is in trouble no matter which one wins the election.

To those who have jumped on the Trump circus train, look back in history to early 1930s Germany and study Adolf Hitler's rise to power. You will see many similarities in what Donald Trump is doing and telling Americans today. I know Washington is broken, but Trump is not the solution. I have been a Republican all my life, but if it comes down to Clinton vs. Trump, I unfortunately will have to vote for Clinton because I feel she will do less harm than Trump. Trump doesn't want to "make America great again"; he wants to make Trump great. This man will destroy America. He won't be the commander in chief, he will be the demander in chief.

I served in Vietnam, love this country deeply, but don't want to see Trump destroy it, and that's exactly what will happen.

Beware Trump, a 'loose cannon'

Tragic or amusing - the challenge of Pope Francis to Donald Trump that a truly Christian president would not build a wall on the Mexican border, while the Vatican itself has a huge wall?

But who is the true Christian? Obviously, Trump is so biblically illiterate that he, trying to show himself a Christian, once erroneously quoted a text from "Two Corinthians" instead of "Second Corinthians."

And did he never read the Bible's injunction in Colossians 3:8?: "But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth."

Obviously this man is a loose cannon.

"By their fruits ye shall know them," said Jesus, (Matthew 7:20).

Advice offered on traffic flow

I want to see a VW comeback via a partnership with the city in order to build its new 300-mile electric vehicle here. Given the city's weak knees on citywide Wi-Fi and expanding fiber optics to rural areas, I'm skeptical though. We'll need to pry open some closed minds to get going again.

Want to see this city as a model for the 21st century? Put charging stations on super parking meters. Want a more vibrant business atmosphere on Broad, Market and adjacent streets? You can't expect small business, commerce and ambiance in the middle of a drag strip.

Get rid of those red lights that make drivers wait unnecessarily and dash to make it through the next cycle. Anyone who knows what happens to businesses when flyovers are built to ease bottlenecked traffic knows what it is like to have a business between red lights.

Don't waste valuable real estate on traffic circles downtown. Without red lights, traffic will adjust, move at a cleaner, more time efficient, less dangerous speed, and pedestrians/consumers and cyclists will populate the district. Search "Part I: Roads unfit for people" to see it work.
