Levine suggested as superintendent

"Smith gone. What next?"

This is not a hard question to answer. Why? Chattanooga has an outstanding person in its midst. Who is that person? It is Jill Levine!

Without question, Jill Levine would be my choice to lift the Hamilton County Schools from the "mess" in which it seems to appear. She has a distinguished track record of success locally and nationally.

Whether or not she is interested, I have no idea. However, I know there are numerous community leaders who are eager to see her as the next leader of our school system.

Senate needn't take up nomination

A number of readers are complaining about the Senate's failure to take up Obama's Supreme Court nomination.

Article II, Section 2 of the Constitution states in the second paragraph concerning the president: "He shall have power, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and he shall nominate, and with the advice and consent of the Senate shall appoint judges of the Supreme Court "

I see nothing in the Constitution telling the Senate when it must act. Further, it seems the Senate is telling the president it does not consent - at least now.

Obama, as a constitutional lawyer, knows this. He is only trying to divide the country more.

What don't the complaining writers not understand about the word "no"?

Consider schooling students year-round

As a parent who has a child attending public school, I am very concerned with the future of our schools.

Low test scores, no accountability with our former superintendent, no checks and balances with our Board of Education and superintendent, no visibility with our school board nor superintendent, low pay for our teachers, lack of parental involvement - our children will continue to fail.

It's time to think outside the box and reshape and reinvent our public education system. As you all know we have 180 days of school. Who is teaching our children for the remaining 185 days?

The educational process has changed since we have been in school - and we can no longer educate our children in the current process. It's time for a change.

We need year-round school! We need to accept and acknowledge that we have failed our children. Now we need to fix it.

Heed God's word; find truth in Bible

Some who believe Bible rules are outdated probably never read the Bible, or probably forgot what it says. Ever since there have been people, most have never paid any attention to what God's word is.

There was just as much wickedness and evil back in Bible days as there is today. If God's word is outdated, why didn't God tell his followers?

Also, why does God save people like he always has? God will save people who follow his word.

I recommend everyone read and heed Psalms 100:5, which says his mercy is everlasting and his truth endures to all generations.
