Columnists don't know economics

Please tell The Chattanooga Times editors to cease including Robert Reich and Paul Krugman on the left editorial page. They are uninformed political writers, not very good economists.

In Reich's "prosperity" column, he claimed President Clinton's policies boomed the economy. Not quite entirely true. President Reagan's signing of a tax rate reduction law was responsible.

Several presidents in the last 100 years have signed similar laws. In every one of those cases, after about a year or so, the U.S. economy turned around and grew nicely.

And, the tax receipts received by the federal government increased substantially over receipts under previous higher tax rates. In Reagan's case, the boom lasted almost 20 years.

When corporate rates are reduced and the double tax on repatriated corporate profits is reduced, trillions of corporate dollars left in foreign countries will eventually return and stimulate our economy.

Only American taxes repatriated corporate profits.

Both Reich and Krugman do not realize that corporations really do not pay taxes, at any rate. The expected taxes that corporations will send to the federal government are included in the prices of corporate services and products. Those taxes come out of the pockets of their customers.

Ringgold flags show respect, patriotism

To the nameless liberal, left-wing nut case who has a problem with Ringgold High School's youth making flag crosses honoring deceased veterans:

Who gave you the right to speak about whatever you think you don't like about our youth making the crosses? Unlike you, each of those crosses has a name. Why would you want to be nameless when this county affords you the right to air your cause at an open forum, not retaining an out-of-state attorney to do your dirty work?

You should be walking in downtown Ringgold among the flags and being grateful you live in this county and country. Catoosa is peaceful, until some liberal, nameless, left-wing nut case comes and riles up the Southern Christians about something they are patriotic about.

Visit the National Cemetery for an American wake-up call; you really need one. If that doesn't work, we will take up money for a one-way, out-of-state ticket with stipulations of "No Return."

Democrats inconsistent on debt concerns

With the possibility of the national debt increasing by $1 trillion under President Trump's tax plan, liberal politicians are screaming about the burdensome debt, and it is a real concern.

But why weren't they objecting when, under President Obama's watch, the debt increased almost $8 trillion in eight years?
